Working with you and your family, Koboji provides flexible giving options so you can focus on the joy of making a difference and living well.

What will be your legacy?

Starting the conversation about planned giving can be a difficult obstacle, especially for kamaʻāina families.

Islanders have a rich history of philanthropy and giving. Planned giving with Koboji Shingon Mission allows families to incorporate and practice our Buddhist and island values. We treat acts of giving not as just dana -- in the Buddhist sense -- but as intergenerational, generous, and respectful.

We invite your financial, legal, and tax advisors to reflect on how your values relate to your everyday practices as well.

Planned and Legacy Giving

Planned giving is a method of supporting nonprofits like Koboji. It enables individuals and families to make special gifts. It can include a direct transfer of an asset or estate, and tax planning techniques that maximise the gift while minimising impacts to your loved ones. Examples of common legacy gifts can be found below.
Bequests
A bequest is one of the easiest gifts to make. It is a gift from your will or living trust. Giving through a bequest allows you to make a generous gift that you might not be able to give during your lifetime.
Retirement Plans
This type of gift is also easy to make and can maximise benefits to you and to the community. By designating a nonprofit as the beneficiary of all or part of your IRA, the full value of the gift is transferred tax-free at your death and your estate may receive a charitable deduction.
Life Insurance
You can name Koboji as the primary, partial, or alternate beneficiary of your life insurance policy. If you no longer need the policy proceeds in your estate, you can transfer ownership of the policy to the temple.

Giving from your IRA

If you meet certain age criteria, your IRA can make a difference today. You can support the temple community through your IRA's qualified charitable distribution (QCD). This can satisfy all or part of your required minimum distribution (RMD).

Contact your IRA plan administrator to inquire about how to make a QCD to Koboji Shingon Mission. Your administrator may have a form for you to complete.
